Crypto Converter
Convert between major cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies with live prices. Track Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and more.
How It Works
This crypto converter fetches real-time cryptocurrency prices from the CoinGecko API, one of the most widely used and trusted cryptocurrency data aggregators. CoinGecko collects price data from hundreds of exchanges worldwide and calculates volume-weighted average prices to provide accurate market rates.
When the tool loads, it requests prices for all supported cryptocurrencies in all available fiat currencies in a single API call. This means switching between coins or fiat currencies is instant since all the data is already available locally. The conversion is calculated by multiplying your input amount by the price per coin: result = amount x price_per_coin.
For example, if Bitcoin is priced at $65,000 USD and you enter 0.5 BTC, the result would be 0.5 x 65,000 = $32,500 USD. The market overview table gives you a quick snapshot of all supported cryptocurrency prices at a glance in your selected fiat currency.
Cryptocurrency prices are highly volatile and can change significantly within minutes. The prices shown represent a snapshot at the time of fetching and may differ from the exact price at the moment of an actual trade. Always verify prices on your exchange before executing trades.
Frequently Asked Questions
Prices are sourced from the CoinGecko API, which aggregates trading data from hundreds of cryptocurrency exchanges worldwide. CoinGecko calculates volume-weighted average prices across these exchanges to provide a fair and representative market price. This methodology helps smooth out price discrepancies between individual exchanges and provides a reliable reference rate.
Cryptocurrency prices can vary between exchanges due to differences in liquidity, trading volume, regional demand, and the speed at which arbitrage traders equalize prices. The prices shown here are aggregated averages across many exchanges. Your specific exchange may show a slightly higher or lower price depending on its own order book and trading conditions. For the most accurate price, always check your exchange directly before placing a trade.
Cryptocurrency prices are significantly more volatile than traditional currencies or most other asset classes. It is common for major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin to move 3-5% in a single day, and altcoins (smaller cryptocurrencies) can move 10-20% or more. During major market events, prices can swing even more dramatically. This high volatility is driven by factors including market sentiment, regulatory news, technological developments, macroeconomic conditions, and the relatively smaller market size compared to traditional financial markets.
A cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency that uses cryptography for security and operates on a decentralized network, typically a blockchain. No central authority like a government or bank controls it. Examples include Bitcoin and Ethereum. A fiat currency, on the other hand, is government-issued money like the US Dollar or Euro that is not backed by a physical commodity but derives its value from government decree and the trust of the people who use it. Fiat currencies are managed by central banks that control monetary policy.
